Is some not-so-shocking news today, Penske Racing has announced that it is parting ways with the suspended AJ Allmendinger. Allmendinger was suspended before the July Daytona race a few weeks ago for testing positive in a random drug screening the week before. Allmendinger also tested positive in a second drug test last week (click here for that story).
While no parties wants to discuss the substance, ESPN is reporting it was an amphetamine. The doctor who does the testing for NASCAR says it is not likely for any over-the-counter items to test positive in the test.
Allmendinger has entered the NASCAR "Road To Recovery" program to work his way back to the track. He is taking the more noble path compared to the only other Sprint Cup driver who has failed the test, Jeremy Mayfield.
Sam Hornish Jr, who has an extensive history with Penske, will be in the #22 Pennzoil Dodge at least for this week at Pocono while Penske evaluates future options.
